Summer Performing Arts Program for Teens at the MACC
“Cross Currents,” a new three-week summer program for teen performing artists, will be offered by at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center from June 12-30, 2017. The program is open to intermediate and high school students ages 12-18 who are interested in advancing their skills in various performing arts and practices.
The classes will meet every day, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The first two weeks of sessions will cover topics in hula, mele, hana keaka, modern dance, American music, and spoken word; the final week will include collaboration on a final project, rehearsal and performances.
“The goal of the workshops is to cultivate new artists in the next generation, to bridge traditional and modern worlds,” according to Chadwick Pang, MACC Education Director. Instructors for the program will include: Moses Goode, Christopher Morgan, Kawika Alfiche, Moira Pirsch, Rama Camarillo and Kamaka Camarillo.
The cost of the three-week “Cross Currents” program is $350, which includes instruction and classroom supplies, as well as lunch and snack each day.
Registration for the program has been extended to June 9.
