William “Willie” Kealoha Kanekoa Jr.

William “Willie” Kealoha Kanekoa, Jr.
November 1, 1946 – May 12, 2017

William “Willie” Kealoha Kanekoa, Jr., 70, of Kahului, passed away on May 12, 2017 at Hale Makua, Kahului. He was born on Nov. 1, 1946 in Pu‘unēnē, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kahului Stake Center, at the corner of Lono and Kamehameha Avenues. Service will begin at 11 a.m. and cremation will follow.

William retired from the Westin Hotel where he worked as a security dispatcher.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Kanekoa; children, Kamaka Kanekoa, Shauna Leialoha (Trevor) Goulding, Kamuela Kanekoa, Moronai Kanekoa, and Maren Leimomi Kanekoa; brothers, James (Shannon) Kanekoa, and Wilfred (Danielle) Kanekoa; grandchildren, Gabriel, Elisabeth, Jacob, and Samuel Goulding; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Katherine Kikuyo Ota

Katherine Kikuyo Ota
July 17, 1924 – May 8, 2017

Katherine Kikuyo Ota, 92, of Kahului passed away on May 8, 2017. Services honoring Katherine will be held at Kahului Hongwanji Mission on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m., with memorial service beginning at 5 p.m.

Katherine was born on July 17, 1924, in Pāʻia, Maui to Tomitaro and Yukino Osakoda. She was the youngest of eight children.

Katherine worked for Dr. Clement Wong for over 30 years. After Dr. Wong retired, she worked as a school health aide at Pu‘unēnē and Wailuku Elementary Schools. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her witty and cheerful personality. She loved playing Mah Jong every week with her friends. She loved watching her grandchildren and great- grandchildren in their sports, school, and extra curricular activities. She and her husband enjoyed traveling around the world. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Saburo “Fat” Ota and son, Robert Ota. She is survived by her daughter, Winona (Thomas, Jr.) Lau Hee, daughter-in-law, Janice Ota; grandchildren, Mark (Leslie) Lau Hee, Ryan Lau Hee, Wendy (James) Nobriga, Darrell (Michelle) Ota, Randall Ota, Mitchell Ota; great-grandchildren, Courtney Lau Hee, Buddy James Nobriga, Joshua Nobriga, Jaelynn Nobriga, Marelle Ota, Meledee Ota, Darred Ota, Kayla Ota and great- great-grandchildren Mahinatea, Buddy, and James Nobriga.

Raymond Mamoru Tendo, Sr.
January 12, 1930 – May 5, 2017

Raymond Mamoru Tendo, Sr., 87, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on May 5, 2017, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 12, 1930, on Lānaʻi.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at St. Anthony Catholic Church; mass will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.

Raymond retired from the State Parks Department at ʻĪao Valley. He is survived by his wife, Mary Martin Tendo; sons, Raymond Tendo, Jr. (Ivy), James Tendo, Lester Tendo; daughter, Arlene Tendo (Manny); sister, Thelma Siders (Gilbert); grandchildren, Starr, Troy (Christie), Kiley, Bradly, Hannah; and great grandchildren, Jack and Malcolm.

Harry Aukai Hueu

Harry Aukai Hueu
May 29, 1939 – May 24, 2017

Harry Aukai Hueu, 77, of Ke‘anae Maui passed away very peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. A celebration of his life will be held on Memorial Day May 29, 2017. Viewing will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with service starting at 7 p.m. This birthday celebration will be held at the Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului. The family requests no flowers please.

Harry recently celebrated 54 years of marriage to the love of his life, Sandra Gail Chaves. Together they had five children. JJ Keola (Sunnie), Harry Aukai (Tiffany), Boyd Naauao, Tammy Mahealani (Kelly) Luat-Hueu and Jesse Kanoe. Harry was extremely proud to be the Papa to his 12 grandchildren. Napuaonalani, Leialoha, Jocelyn, Iokepa, Kupono, Kupaa, Kahiau, Kaleiola, Zion, Haakea, Kaikea and Moikea. He also loved the precious time spent with his great-grandchildren, Nakoolau and JaeJae.

Harry was the oldest child born to James and Maleka Hueu. His siblings are Barbara (John) Kaslowski, Meleana (Pat) Aloy, James (Elizabeth), Janet (Lloyd) Redo and Nalani (Francis) Kaauamo. He also has two sisters Marlene (Ernie) Eberhart and Terry (Kaipo) Kimokeo.

Harry was a 1958 graduate of the Kamehameha Schools. He was a taro farmer in Ke‘anae and he was also a long time member of the Operating Engineers Local Union #3 where he retired as a crane operator and a business agent.

Gayland E. Baker, 67, of Kamuela, was born in Riverside, CA on Dec. 18, 1949, and passed away on May 12, 2017 in Kamuela. Gayland worked as co-owner of a bed and breakfast.

He is survived by his son, Christian Baker of Kamuela; brothers Glen (Sandy) Baker of Grand Island, NE; Sean Baker of Kamuela; and Gene Baker of Grand Island, NE.

Private services will be held.

Tulene Ragonton
February 23, 1962 – May 12, 2017

Tulene Ragonton, 55, of Honoka‘a passed away on May 12, 2017. He was born on Feb. 23, 1962 in Waimea, Kaua‘i. Celebration of Life held. He is survived by his spouse Faith W. Kauai-Ragonton; mother Lorita Kaleimakalii Mooiki; father Francisco Ragonton; grandparents Silvino Ragonton, Timotea Rabe, Louis Kekiahi Mooiki and Agnes Kahowahiwa Naanielua; and son Nikklaus Agular. Tulene is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Elujino V. Alvarez Jr., 70, of Hilo, passed away on May 6, 2017. Elujino was born on Oct. 14, 1946, in Honolulu. Services will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo (570 Kinoole Street. Hilo, HI 96720) on May 17, 2017. Visitation at 5 p.m. and Service at 6 p.m.

He is survived by sons Elujino Alvarez III and Abraham (Brittany) Alvarez Sr.; daughter Stacey (Alan) Alvarez; brothers Fernando Alvarez, Robin Alvarez Sr., William Alvarez, Anthony Alvarez, Alan “Puncho” (Barbara) Alvarez, Dean Alvarez, Wilbur (Jessica) Alvarez and Wayne “Cody” (Annie) Alvarez; sisters Mildred Alvarez, Irene (Bully) Flores, Caroline Alvarez, Vivian Alvarez, Patricia Alvarez, Deborah Alvarez, Verna Alvarez, Barcitla Ramirez, Darlene (Chico) Marrero, Joanna Dima and Renee (Rocky) Abadilla. Elujino is also survived by 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is predeceased by son John Alvarez.
