Senator Mazie K. Hirono today announced that Hawaiʻi will receive $492,800 in federal funding to enhance state preparedness and response efforts to address complex coordinated terrorist attacks.

PC: Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee report.

“We must remain vigilant to threats from terrorism including homegrown extremism and lone wolf style attacks, but many of the programs that help keep us safe are under attack from the Trump administration,” said Senator Hirono.

“This federal grant funding will help ensure that Hawaiʻi has the appropriate resources to prepare for, prevent, and respond to these ever evolving threats. I will continue to fight against the Trump administration’s attempts to defund programs that keep Hawaiʻi communities safe,” she said.

Part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency Fiscal Year 2016 Program to Prepare Communities for Complex Coordinated Terrorist Attacks, the funding will provide the Hawaiʻi Department of Defense resources to further develop planning and coordination activities.
