“It was almost like a food coma!”

Four Seasons Resort Maui Executive Chef Craig Dryhurst flew in around 50 different types of Dim Sum, or Chinese steamed buns and dumplings, from a favorite spot in China Town on O’ahu. After tasting them all, staff chose the top seven, now available in the resort’s Lobby Lounge on weekends.

“We have much more of an Asian influence over the menu here and we’re looking to expand on that even more in the coming months,” explains Dryhurst, who says new Lobby Lounge options will include eye-catching cocktails and desserts, like a flaming crème brûlée.  The open-air lounge space also features nightly live music and hula shows.

Dim Sum is often a brunch tradition, but in this case, the Lobby Lounge opens at 5 p.m., and the bamboo steamer baskets keep coming until supplies run out for the night.  The offering was initially available solely on Saturdays, but became so popular, Four Seasons is now serving Dim Sum on Sundays!  Each basket costs around $35 for the selection of Dim Sum and three house-made dipping sauces.

So how long will this weekend Dim Sum special last at Four Seasons Resort Maui?  As long as people keep ordering it!  Chef Dryhurst says they have no plans to stop, especially since there’s so much excitement from locals that the Chinese treats are available somewhere on Maui.

“When I used to live in Vancouver, I’d go with my friends every Sunday,” he says.  “You go out for Dim Sum, and it’s about breaking bread and spending time with family and friends, and we want people to share that experience.”
