Maui Swears-in New Deputy Fire Chief

The Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety welcomed New Deputy Fire Chief, Lionel Montalvo to the post during a swearing-in and badge pinning ceremony on Friday, July 28, 2017.

Montalvo is a 26 year veteran of the department, first joining the ranks in 1991 with an initial assignment to the Fire Prevention Bureau. He spent six years as a Fire Inspector before being reassigned to the Wailuku Fire Station as a FFIII.

In February of 2014, Montalvo, was promoted to the rank of Fire Captain from his previous rank of Fire Fighter III.

Robert Shimada served in the post since 2008 when he was selected by then incoming Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray.

The Department of Fire and Public Safety provides emergency and non-emergency services for the islands of Maui, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, and Kahoʻolawe and the surrounding waters.

The Department has 14 fire stations throughout the County of Maui, including 10 on the island of Maui.
