Wastewater Discharge North of Māla Boat Ramp, Maui

Wastewater overflow. Maui Now graphic.

The public is advised to stay out if the coastal waters north of Māla Boat Ramp in West Maui due to a wastewater spill originating from the Lahaina Wastewater Pump Station.

Affected areas include coastal waters 0.5 miles north of Māla, fronting the Honoapiʻilani Highway between Kapunakea Street and Wahikuli Road.

The exact volume of the spill is still being calculated.

The spill occurred in the early morning hours on Saturday, June 16, 2018.

The State Department of Health, Clean Water Branch reports that the discharge has been stopped.

The public is advised to remain out of these waters until warning signs have been removed.
