Maui Officer Honored for Heroism in Nāpili Apartment Fire

The Maui Police Department today recognized Officer William Cleghorn, II, who is credited with assisting a Nāpili resident during a residential fire on July 20, 2018.

Police say Officer Cleghorn, II gained entry to the apartment and assisted the resident to safety.

He recently received a special award from Maui Crime Stoppers for his heroic actions.

The Maui Police Department joined in congratulating Officer Cleghorn, II for his actions and his service.

According to earlier reports, the fire occurred in the early morning hours at the Sunset Terrace Apartments in Honokōwai.

Fire officials reported that upon arrival, an officer had already forced the door to the apartment and rescued a 40-year-old man who was disoriented and somewhat overwhelmed by the heat and heavy smoke conditions.

The man treated by fire personnel and medics and was reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
