96th Maui Fair Photo Contest Seeking Entries

The 96th Maui Fair, which takes place Oct. 4-7 is now seeking applicants to enter their Photo Salon Contest. The competition is open to all Hawaiʻi residents and consists of three divisions: Youth, Open & Expert.

The “Youth” division is open to State of Hawaiʻi residents 18 years or younger; the “Open” division includes all amateur photographers who are residents of the State of Hawaiʻi; and the “Expert” division is open to Hawaiʻi professional photographers and recognized photo experts, including those who have won 1st place in any previous Maui Fair.

Within each division, competitors may submit photos in any of the following categories: Monochrome/Black & White Prints, Color Prints, and Photo Art.

The contest is highly competitive, with more than 200 photographers submitting over 500 photographs each year. The Maui Camera Club, which will oversee the competition, invites three highly qualified Maui professional photographers to adjudicate the competition.

The winners will be ranked according to first, second and third place winners in addition to three honorable mentions in each of the nine division/categories.

Following judging, every entry will be displayed on the Photo Salon wall of the War Memorial Gym for the duration of the Fair.

A fee of $2 per Youth Division and $5 per Open & Expert Division must accompany all entries. Cash is accepted and checks are payable to the Maui Camera Club.

Photo drop-offs for entries paid online is Sept. 22-28, 2018, at Picture It Framed, 230 Hāna Highway #8, Kahului, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Photo drop-off for entries paying in cash (or anyone needing help with registration) can ONLY drop-off on Sept. 29, 2018, at Hale Mahaolu ʻElima, 11 Mahaolu Street, Kahului, 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Photo Pickup After the Fair must be done by Oct. 9-14, 2018, at Picture It Framed, 230 Hāna Highway #8 (at Wākea), Kahului, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, Tuesday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Pictures not picked up by end of day on Oct. 14 may be auctioned off.

Contestants may fill out an application online at www.mauifair.com/attractions/photo-salon/ from now through Sept. 24 at noon. Only photos taken after Oct. 1, 2017 are eligible.
