Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa answers some of the most-asked questions submitted to his staff.

Mr. Mayor,

Q: Why is the Paratransit Services allowed to leave clients stranded for up to four hours? I am a rider who has experienced this abuse more than twice in the last month. Their excuse is always the same–We had a few drivers that went home sick. The county needs to hire more drivers who can replace the sick drivers, so our persons with disabilities do not have to suffer any more. I am late for work and can not afford to lose my jobs.

A: The vendor who runs the paratransit service for the county is Maui Economic Opportunity. We passed along your complaint to MEO and they said they need more information. Please contact MEO Chief Operating Officer Gay Sibonga at 249-2990 to further discuss this matter with them.
