Pools of ʻOheʻo. PC: Haleakalā NPS.

The Pools of ʻOheʻo in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park will reopen on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 following a nearly two year closure.

The area closed last year on Jan. 3, 2017 following a rockslide that resulted in a minor injury to a park visitor.

Park officials remind the public that water quality varies at the location and violent flash floods or rock falls can occur in the stream at any time. Injuries and even deaths have occurred.

The Pools of ‘Ohe‘o are regarded by the Native Hawaiian community as sacred and are used for ceremonial purposes.

Park rangers ask the public to please be respectful while visiting the pools.
