Thrill Craft, Tow-in Training at UH Maui College

With winter surf rolling in, the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College is offering two upcoming consecutive thrill craft and ocean safety training certification classes.

On Saturday Dec. 22, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., students will learn about local ocean safety principles and practices; historical, cultural, and customary practices of Hawai‘i’s ocean users; and rules regarding protected species and thrill craft operation in Hawai‘i.

On Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., students will learn about the legal and regulatory requirements for persons who participate in the sport of tow-in surfing in Hawaiʻi; risk management principles; local ocean safety principles and practices; rules and laws pertaining to protected species in ocean waters in Hawaiʻi; and boating skills as they apply to the sport of tow-in surfing.

Effective January 2005, all recreational thrill craft (personal watercraft) operators must complete the Thrill Craft certification class on the safe use and operation of a thrill craft, and for tow-in surfing, operators must also complete the Ocean Safety Tow-in course.

Register for Recreational Thrill Craft Operators Safety Course, course # FIT8110 and Ocean Safety Tow-In Course, course # FIT8100. Cost is $125 for each course.
