Maui police have arrested and charged a man for his alleged involvement in the weekend robbery of an ʻukulele store in Lahaina.

Forty-seven year old Jason Bero, who has no local address, was charged on Monday afternoon with second degree robbery and several outstanding arrest warrants.

He is accused of entering D&D ʻUkulele at 790 Front Street at round 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, taking an ʻukulele valued at around $500, and running out of the store without paying for it, according to police.

Police say an employee chased the suspect and tried to detain him, but the suspect fled on foot up Front Street. The employee was struck by the suspect with the ʻukulele during the incident, but was uninjured, according to police.
