Imua Family Services hosts an Early Childhood Development Conference on Saturday March 9, 2019 at 8 a.m. at the organization’s offices at 161 South Wākea Avenue in Kahului.

The Conference provides training for Preschool and Kindergarten Teachers, Early Childhood Professionals and Social Workers from Maui county with new strategies to support children and their families.

Session One (9 a.m. to noon) will feature keynote speaker Ashley Rhodes-Courter, an internationally recognized motivational speaker, author and business woman.

She holds a Masters of Social Work and wrote the New York Times Bestselling book, “Three Little Words.”  The story is a memoir of her experiences going through the foster care system, where she spent nine years in 14 different foster homes – some quite abusive – until she was adopted at 12 years of age.  “Three Little Words,” is currently being made into a major motion picture.

Ashley has used her experience to find the strength to accomplish incredible things, including being a foster parent to more than 20 children.  Through her powerful personal story and infectious humor, she inspires audiences to overcome challenges and accomplish more than they ever thought possible.

Session Two (1 to 4 p.m.) focuses on Nonviolent Communication based on restorative practices designed to assist with teaching children with challenging behaviors and will provide experiential learning opportunities.
