The traffic signal at the intersection of Wakea and Onehee avenues in Kahului is malfunctioning due to water damage from the weekend’s severe winter storm, the Department of Public Works announced.

To increase safety until repairs can be made, the signal has been switched to a flashing mode – yellow for traffic on Wakea and red for motorists on Onehee and exiting the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center.

The temporary flashing signal mode will likely cause some traffic congestion in the area until the signal can be repaired. The department urges motorists to use caution when driving through this intersection.

The target for completing repairs is noon tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 13.
