Kayakers Rescued Near Molokini
The Maui Fire Department responded to a call to assist a male and female kayaker near Molokini at 11:51 a.m. on Sunday, March 3.
The kayakers set off earlier from Black Sand Beach and were unable to fight the current back Maui.
With the assistance of lifeguards on a rescue watercraft from Mākena and the Coast Guard from Mā‘alaea, MFD personnel were able to retrieve two kayakers along with their kayak.
There was no need for medical attention.
The Coast Guard brought the kayakers as close as possible to Mākena Landing so lifeguards on the watercraft could bring them to shore with the assistance of Wailea firefighters.
The firefighters also assisted the kayakers in retrieving their vehicle at Black Sand Beach.
