Maui Police Special Response Team Takes Man into Custody at Kahului Home

A Special Response Team from the Maui Police Department took a man into custody at a cottage on Kea Street on Tuesday morning, March 12, 2019.

At around 6:55 a.m. area residents reported that they heard commotion with police yelling “get down,” and observed a special response vehicle parked within the driveway of the home.

Several minutes later at 7:07 a.m., a man emerged from the 456A Kea Street residence in handcuffs and was escorted to an undercover police vehicle.

The home was the same residence that police responded to on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 in a search for Kaulana “Toji” Reinhardt.  During the December incident, police had been acting on a tip, but did not find Kaulana Reinhardt at the home.  The fugitive died three days later in an police involved shooting in Wailuku.

UPDATE: At around noon on Tuesday, police responded to Maui Now’s request for more information, saying they are awaiting details and will provide us with information when it becomes available.
