An injured hiker was rescued from a trail in the lava fields south of La Perouse Bay in Mākena on Tuesday morning, March 12, 2019.

Firefighters from Wailea utilized an ATV to gain access to the individual, who was located approximately 1.5 miles into the rough trail.

The hiker, identified as a 73-year-old woman visiting from Portland, Oregon, was then brought out to the parking area at La Perouse Bay where Medics initially treated her for several cuts and a possible broken wrist.

Fire officials say the injuries were reportedly from a fall which occurred while she was hiking with family on the trail.
