Maui’s Destin Cretton to Direct Marvel’s Shang-Chi

Marvel Studios’ is making a movie featuring the superhero Shang-Chi, the ‘Master of Kung Fu,’ sources close to the production have confirmed.

According to a Deadline Hollywood exclusive, Destin Daniel Cretton, who is originally from Haʻikū, Maui, was selected as the film’s director. The publication, which was first to break the news, reports that it’s the “first superhero movie tentpole franchise with an Asian protagonist.”

Cretton is currently working on the film “Just Mercy,” which is due out for release in January of 2020, according to the movie, TV and celebrity website IMDb. He is also known for his work on the screenplay “Short Term 12.”
