Maui Man Fatally Injured When Vehicle Overturns on Kekaulike Highway

A  Maui man suffered fatal injuries in an early morning accident near Crater Road in Kula on Saturday, January 28, 2012.

The man, identified as 20-year-old Cody Ikaika Miyoshi Endo of Makawao, was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

Endo was traveling north toward Makawao on the Kekaulike Highway (Hwy 377) at 12:21 a.m. near the intersection of Crater Road, when he lost control of the 1994 Toyota pickup truck he was driving.

According to police reports, Endo’s truck struck the guardrail along the northbound lane, slid across the intersection, and climbed an embankment.  The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof within the backyard of a residence on Palena Place.

Police reports indicate Endo was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Police say the involvement of speed and alcohol are under investigation.
