Sail Boat Runs Aground in Lahaina

A Coast Guard and Marine Safety team arrived on the scene of a grounded vessel on Maui’s West coast this morning to assess the situation.

A team has since been hired to assist in the salvage of the grounded vessel that was discovered on Monday morning. Further details and an update surrounding the salvage efforts will be posted shortly.

Crews from the US Coast Guard and local law enforcement officials are searching for the owner of a 29-foot recreational sailing vessel that ran aground in West Maui yesterday.

The vessel was found grounded at around 11:15 a.m. on Monday, south of Lahaina.

The boat was last registered in Hawaii to a Randy Perez and bears the Hull Identification Number: HA4201E.

Officials yesterday were trying to determine if Perez was in distress.

Any person with knowledge of the vessel or its owner is asked to contact the US Coast Guard.
