State Soccer: Baldwin Ousted; Mililani to Face Kalani in Boys Final

2012_soccer_champinshipsTop-seeded Mililani will face unseeded Kalani tonight in an all-Oahu Interscholastic Association final of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Boys Soccer Championships at Waipi’o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Mililani’s Renato Torquato’s follow-up goal in the 45th minute beat iolani, 1-0, in one semifinal game Friday, while Kalani defeated Kapolei, 2-1, in overtime in the other semifinal contest. The Falcons relied on Thursday’s hero Leo Klink for  his magic again, scoring the game winner in the 87th minute.

Mililani and Kalani play for the championship at 7 p.m.

In consolation action Friday, Punahou rallied from a 3-2 halftime deficit to outscore Baldwin, 5-3. The Bears’ Mattias Thompson scored goals in the 10th and 26th minutes before Keelan Ewaliko added the final tally in the 40th minute.

The loss eliminated Baldwin from the 12-team Division I tournament. The MIL champions finished with a 11-5 league record.

Punahou will play for fifth place against Pearl City today at 3 p.m. The Chargers ousted Kealakehe, 2-0, on Friday.

Today’s other games, all starting at 3 o’clock, pits Aiea against Waiakea for the consolation title and Iolani takes on Kapolei for third place.

At the Division II tournament, also at Waipio soccer fields, Kapaa beat Christian Liberty, 1-0, in one semifinal Friday and Honokaa pounded Mid-Pacific, 5-1, in the other semifinal. Kapaa and Honokaa face each other for the Division II championship today at 5 p.m.

In other games Friday, Castle defeated Seabury Hall, 1-0, and Kahuku knocked out Makua Lani, 3-1.
