By Wendy Osher
Nearly 400 keiki and kupuna on Lana’i learned about electrical safety hazards, and how to properly prepare for emergencies during a presentation hosted by Maui Electric Company last week.
The community outreach effort on March 22, focued on “Safety first” and included visits to schools, businesses and with seniors throughout Lanai City.
“Our community outreach education programs are an important component to helping keep our communities safe,” said MECO’s President Ed Reinhardt.
MECO planned the outreach in an effort to educate residents on the dangers of electricity, indoor hazards, and the do’s and don’ts of electric use.
“Our goal is to empower our customers, keiki to kupuna, with the knowledge necessary to use electricity wisely and safely,” said Reinhardt.
Energy efficiency and conservation booklets were also shared with Lanai school staff, Lanai Senior Center kupuna and local businesses.
