BRIEF: Missing Hiker Safe After ‘Iao Search

The search for a missing hiker in ‘Iao Valley ended Wednesday evening when the missing man made it out safely on his own.

Authorities say the search was launched at 7:05 p.m. by crews from the Maui Fire Department’s Engine 1 from Wailuku and Rescue 10 from Kahului.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said the crews were about one hour and 15 minutes into the search when the 35-year-old man was made it out of the mountains.

Authorities say the man had been living on Maui for the last year.  No medical attention was needed, according to Mainaga.
