Fire Burns Condo Unit at ‘Iao Parkside

A condo fire was reported at a unit located within the ‘Iao Parkside complex in Wailuku on Monday.

Crews were called to the scene at 8:10 a.m. to find a fire in the kitchen of a unit located at 71 Kopi Lane.

Fire officials say the blaze was contained to the room of origin, but displaced a family of five.  Authorities say the Red Cross was activated a mother and father, along with their 3 children who resided in the unit.

No one was home at the time of the incident, but crews evacuated residents from surrounding units during their response.

Fire inspectors have since classified the incident as accidental, with the most probable cause being electrical.

Authorities estimated damages at $15,000.

Fire officials say the fire was brought under control shortly after 8:30 a.m., and was extinguished shortly after 10 a.m.
