This month the Maui County Business Resource Center (MCBRC) is offering a 60-minute “crash course” on understanding and improve credit scores, along with several other free business workshops.

This free workshop is presented by Jason Hall, a board certified credit expert, with deep experience as a credit consultant and former senior loan officer. He will discuss collections, tax liens, judgments, late payments, foreclosures and short sales and how they affect your credit report.

The Maui County Business Resource Center also has an entire lineup of short business workshops for August. Every month, local business experts share a wealth of knowledge and experience at the free workshops and topics vary by month but usually focus on starting, financing, and growing a small business.

The Center, a division of the County of Maui Office of Economic Development, also has free business counseling with business executives in the US Small Business Administration’s Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) counselor program.

SCORE is a federal program and the Maui Chapter is lead by long-time SCORE counselor and certified public accountant, Richard Kehoe.

Unless otherwise specified, the workshops run from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Maui County Business Resource Center in the Maui Mall. The August workshops are as scheduled:

“QuickBooks II for Small Business” by Richard Kehoe, CPA – Thursday, August 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. $45 per session Hands-on computer training workshop for intermediate users.
This workshop is a continuation of the QuickBooks for Small Business workshop. Learn how to customize invoices, create reports, and practice the payroll functions of QuickBooks. In addition, learn how to produce balance sheets and profit and loss statements.  Richard Kehoe, CPA is the owner and operator of his own accounting and tax form service.

“Understanding Your Credit and Scores” by Jason Hall – Tuesday, August 14
Learn how to improve your credit scores. Learn how to deal with collections, tax liens, judgments, late payments, foreclosures and short sales on a credit report.  Find out how this information can possibly be removed in less than 7 years to improve a score.  This workshop will be presented by Jason Hall, a Board Certified Credit Expert.

“The 2012 Internet Marketing Workshop” by Steve Zuwala – Wednesday, August 15

What happens in the event of death, disability or retirement? Is there a written plan? All of this will be discussed in this workshop being presented by Gretchen G. Voxland, CLU, ChFC, owner of Horizon Financial, LLC.  She has been teaching the Complete Financial Workshop at UH Maui College for over ten years.

“Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Pono Center – How Can it Help Your Small Business” by Susie Thieman – Thursday, August 23
Learn about the Pono Center and what it has to offer your small business, i.e. a training room for up to 35 people, a conference room for the day or an office to meet clients, the commercial kitchen, and more. Presented by Susie Thieman, the interim executive director of Lokahi Pacific.

Maui Business Brainstormers Monthly Meeting – Tuesday– August 28 – Noon to 1:30 p.m.
