UPDATE: Investigation of Device Prompts Evacuation at Mokuhau Rd, Wailuku

Maui police issued an “all-clear” at 8:50 p.m. after authorities determined a suspicious device at a Wailuku home did not contain explosives.
An Army Explosive Ordnance Device team from Oahu discovered no explosives present, and determined there was no danger, said police.
The EOD team classified the device as a “hoax” improvised explosive device, said Lt. Wayne Ibarra with the Maui Police Department.
Police then recovered the device and plan to submit it into evidence.
Both the Maui Civil Defense and Red Cross were contacted and informed of the “all clear.”
The investigation is on-going.

Maui police continue an investigation into reports of a possible homemade explosive device at a home located at 2275 Mokuhau Road in Wailuku.
The report was first made at around 12:50 p.m. Maui Police Lt. Wayne Ibarra said an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Honolulu arrived on scene at around 7:30 p.m.
Civil Defense authorities say about 25 people who were evacuated from area homes were being accommodated at a shelter established at the Wailuku Gym on Market Street.
An investigation is on-going at this time.

Maui Police called in an explosive ordnance disposal team after responding to reports of a possible homemade explosive device at a home on Mokuhau Road in Wailuku on Wednesday afternoon.
The Army EOD team from Honolulu was expected to arrive on island by around 6:30 p.m.
The report was first received at around 12:50 p.m. when police and
fire units received reports of the suspicious item found within a home at the back of a residence located at 2275 Mokuhau Road.
At about 12:57 p.m., police arrived on scene, and at around 1:36 p.m., police along with the assistance of other emergency personnel began evacuating the surrounding residences as a precaution.
An investigation is on-going at this time.
The Wailuku Gym on Market Street has been designated as an evacuation center for those residence that have been displaced.
Authorities said the Red Cross would be staffing the evacuation center as of 3:30 p.m. Transportation from Mokuhau Park to the evacuation is available for affected residents.
