UPDATE: Baldwin Incident Classified as Assault

UPDATE: 12:33 p.m. 9/28/12:

A fight between two students at Baldwin High School led to the “lockdown” of the campus as a precautionary measure this morning. The incident was reported before 11 a.m. at the Kahului campus. Police say the incident was classified as third degree assault, and have dismissed rumors of a shooting.

Police say that while they were investigating, a TV news station called the school and informed them that they were told it was a shooter on campus. Police have since confirmed that there was no shooter.

At 11:52 a.m., authorities said the incident was under control.

UPDATE: 12:17 p.m. 9/28/12: Maui police say the “lockdown” at Baldwin HS earlier today was due to a fight between two students. Police say that while they were investigating, a TV news station called the school and informed them that they were told it was a shooter on campus. Police have since confirmed that, THERE WAS NO SHOOTER. Police left the campus and classified the incident as an “ASSAULT III.”

BRIEF: 11:52 a.m. 9/28/12. Maui Police have confirmed that Baldwin High School was placed in “lockdown” because of a fight that took place on campus grounds earlier this morning. Maui Police Lt. Wayne Ibarra said the incident involved what he described as “a couple of students” involved in a fight. He also indicated that the situation is now under control.
