Event organizers note that Maui County police respond to more than 4,000 incidents of domestic violence each year.

The event kicks off the observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month for Maui, and is intended to raise awareness, remember lives lost, and support those who are survivors.

The vigil begins at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the courtyard lawn of St. Theresa Church.

All are welcome as the group reflects on what can be done as a community to stop the violence, and support peace in families.
