A 78-year-old man was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center after falling approximately 15-feet down an embankment in ‘Iao Valley, officials said.

Crews from the Maui Fire Department’s Engine 10 and Rescue 10 out of Kahului responded to the incident at 11:11 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2012.

The man slid down the embankment and landed in an area next to the ‘Iao Stream, sustaining non-life threatening injuries to his head and hip, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Rescue personnel hiked 10 minutes into the trail to meet up with the victim.  There, he was stabilized, placed on a backboard, and carried out of the Valley.

He was then transported by medics to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
