Water Use Plan Final Update Process Explained

The County of Maui Department of Water Supply, the Maui Tomorrow Foundation, and the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui will sponsor a short presentation on the Maui Island Water Use and Development Plan and its continuing planning process for its final update.

The public is invited to a short presentation on Tuesday November 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the University of Maui College Pilana Multipurpose room. Pam Pogue, the planning program manager for the County of Maui Department of Water Supply will explain what the plan is, how the process will work, and how communities can be involved.

“We want to make sure the public is aware that this final update of the Water Use Plan, will be different from the earlier draft reviewed by the Maui Board of Water Supply and Maui County Council in 2010,” said Michael Howden, a former chairperson of the Board of Water Supply, in a written statement.

“It will cover the entire island of Maui, both public and private water systems, and be integrated with the Maui Island Plan to reflect projected growth rates and future water demand.”

“We are sure everyone wants to know how the Water Use and Development Plan Process is going to work,” said Irene Bowie, the executive director of Maui Tomorrow.

“Good water planning is the key to a sustainable future and food and energy self sufficiency for Maui Island.”
