Maui Group Plants 80 Native Plants for Arbor Day

A group on Maui celebrated Arbor Day by planting 80 native trees at Ka’a point in Kanaha.

Keep the Hawaiian Islands Beautiful led the project on November 2nd, in an effort to restore the natural beauty of the area.

Among the volunteers on hand for the project were long-time volunteer and Kanaha Champion Mike Perry, who joined volunteers Sharon, Jackie and Kamalani of Lae’ ula O Kai Canoe Club.

The project began with a brief less in propper planting techniques, led by Elaine Malina of Maui Outdoor Circle.

Makana, a Kula elementary student, participated in the event, and had planned to make a presentation to his class this week on the Arbor Day project.

This project was made possible through the support of a $1,000 UPS grant.  The funds were used to purchase and coordinate the project which was held in conjunction with National Planting Day, a Keep America Beautiful initiative celebrated on Arbor Day in Hawai’i.
