(Update: 1/24/13)
A structure fire at a condominium unit in Napili caused an estimated $2,500 in damage on Thursday afternoon.
The incident was reported at 1:09 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 5355 Lower Honoapiilani Highway at the Honokeana Cove complex.
When units from Engine 11 arrived on scene, crews found a smoldering fire directly above the floor area where a worker was soldering new pipes, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
The fire was under control by 1:52 p.m., and called extinguished at 2:30 p.m., said Mainaga.
No injuries were reported, and no one was displaced.
Authorities say the unit was vacant because of remodeling being done to the whole building.
Lower Honoapiilani Road was closed for about a half an hour between Malialani and Napilihau to accomodate fire trucks used in response to the fire. Also responding to the scene were units from Engine 3.
