Hiker Rescued From Halawa Valley, Molokai

A 59-year-old woman from Calgary, Canada was rescued from the Halawa Valley Trail on Molokai after slipping and suffering from a broken ankle, officials said.

The incident was reported at 12:38 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, about two miles up the waterfall trail.

Firefighters from Kaunakakai and Pukoo responded to the scene.  According to authorities, it took about one hour from the initial call for fire units to get to the injured patient.

Officials say the woman was hiking with family members when the incident occurred.

When emergency responders arrived on scene, they stabilized the woman onto a backboard and carried her down the trail.

She was then transported to Molokai General via ambulance in stable condition.
