Gusty Winds Over 50 mph Forecast for Maui
By Wendy Osher
High pressure north of Maui and the Big Island of Hawai’i will produce strong and gusty winds over the area through Tuesday night.
The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory until 6 p.m on Tuesday, Feb. 26 for affected areas.
Forecasters say winds will be blowing from the northeast at 35 mph with gusts over 50 mph, mainly near the mountain areas, gaps, and where winds blow down slope from higher terrain.
The advisory includes Manele, Lanai City, Kahului, Haleakala National Park above the 6,000 foot elevation, South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Kamuela, and Waikoloa.
The NWS advises that winds this strong can bring down tree branches and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
