The Ocean Sciences team from Maui High School advances to the National competition after winning the regional Aloha Bowl over the weekend.
The five-member team includes members: Steven Okada, Bryson Galapon, Min Sung Kim, Gabriel Salazar and Riley Camp.
The team was among 12 that competed in this year’s regional event held at the University of Hawaii on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.
The Maui High Team now moves on to face 24 other regional champions in the 16th Annual National Ocean Sciences Bowl at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on April 18-21, 2013 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
They will be faced with buzzer-style, multiple-choice questions and open-ended, team-challenge questions focused on the field of ocean science.
“These scholars are the future stewards of our ocean, and I know this experience encourages them to continue to learn how the ocean works and how to wisely use our ocean resources for generations to come,” said Robert B. Gagosian, President & CEO of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership.
The Maui High team is coached by Ed Ginoza.
