Maui Nominees Revealed for Women’s History Month

Twenty-one individuals in Maui County were nominated for recognition at the upcoming Women’s History Month celebration, hosted by the Maui Committee on the Status of Women.
Among those being recognized at this year’s event are 15 women and six girls including the following: Flaviana Ancheta, Rhiannon “Rae” Chandler, M. Theresa David, Carrie Demott, Teri Edmonds, Emily Haine-Swatek, Robin Knox, Sadie Mossman, Robyne Nishida Nakao, Lois Prey, Cecelia M. Romero, Theresa Romme, Vicki Soo Hoo, Stacie Williams, Isla Young, Amber Kukuileiwilimomi Afelin, Stephany Flores-Ramos, Oksana Gil, Kyllie Hisashima, Taylor Hori and Ashley Kawagishi.
A reception to honor the nominees will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in the Mayor’s Conference Room on the 9th Floor of the County Building in Wailuku.
The Committee will be presenting awards to women in the following categories: Women of Excellence; Unsung Hero; Career Achievement; and Young Women of Promise (for girls 14 to 21 years of age).
This year’s national theme is “Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.”
Each nominee was recommended by a colleague, teacher or friend. Nominees come from Maui and Molokai.
