The US Army Corps of Engineers will host a public meeting on Wednesday, April 17, as part of a five-year review of the former Opana Point Bombing Range.
According to the public notice announcing the meeting, the USACE described as Opana Point as a former defense site located on Maui’s northern coast in the town of Haʻikū.
The notice states that the site was used during WWII by the US Navy as a practice range and that surface sweeps were conducted in the past to minimize safety hazards from former military use.
The meeting runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Haʻikū Community Center.
