The Fairmont Kea Lani resort on Maui sponsored a community reef clean-up event recently in celebration of Earth Day, hotel administrators said.

The event, held earlier this month, reportedly included the participation of more than 50 residents and visitors who joined in the removal of rubbish and marine debris during the free dive and snorkel off Wailea Point.

The clean-up was held in coordination with Trilogy Excursion’s Blue’aina Program and representatives from Coral Reef Alliance.

In addition to the clean-up, the event also included the donation of $1,000 to the Coral Reef Alliance to support ongoing reef protection and visitor education.
