A hairbrush dagger was confiscated at the Kahului Airport this week according to a blog operated by the federal Transportation Security Administration.

The website states that the item was one of two such devices discovered at airports in the US this week–the other was found in Phoenix.

“These daggers might come in handy if you find yourself in a ‘tangle,’ but there’s no need to bring them into the cabin of an aircraft,” the blog states.

Tactical knives such as the ones pictured are marketed as self defense items by some retailers.

According to the website, the information provided, including weekly highlights from airports across the nation, is shared in an effort to facilitate an ongoing dialogue on innovations in security, technology and the checkpoint screening process.

Calls to regional TSA officials for comment on the incident were not immediately returned.
