All Clear After 3 Accidents: Lahaina, ʻŌmaʻopio, Pūlehu

A 33-year-old Maui man suffered fatal injuries when the bicycle he was operating collided with a truck at the Honoapiʻilani Highway (30) intersection at Kapunakea Street on Saturday afternoon, May 5, police said.

Road OPEN: 3:20 p.m. 5/4/13: Honoapiʻilani Highway (30) at Kapunakea Street in Lahaina is now OPEN in both directions.
Traffic was rerouted earlier this afternoon because of an accident reported at around 12:30 p.m.

A detour remains in place on the Honoapiʻilani Highway (30) at Kapunakea Street in Lahaina.
At 2:47 p.m., Maui police say they started to re-route south-bound traffic onto Front Street.
North-bound traffic continues to be re-routed onto Kapunakea Street.
Motorists can expect significant delays.

Maui police are responding to several traffic accidents reported on various parts of the island today.
The latest accident was reported at around 12:30 p.m. along the Honoapiʻilani Highway (30) at Kapunakea Street in Lahaina. The accident forced the rerouting of traffic in the north-bound lane onto Kapunakea Street. Maui police issued an advisory saying motorists can expect delays.
A separate accident was reported at around 12 p.m. on the Kula Highway (37) at ʻŌmaʻopio Road in Kula. Police were initially rerouting mauka-bound motorists onto ʻŌmaʻopio Road. The road was re-opened at 3 p.m.
A morning accident was also reported at around 6:38 a.m. on Pūlehu Road in Kahului, between Hansen Road and ʻŌmaʻopio Road. Crews from Maui Electric Company responded to the scene this morning to repair a downed electrical pole at the location.
Authorities initially closed Pūlehu Road, but said motorists were still able to access the landfill from Kula Highway, until the road was completely re-opened at 1:49 p.m.
