South Swell Brings Elevated Surf
By Wendy Osher
A series of south swells begins arriving in the islands today with elevated surf expected through the weekend, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service.
The agency issued a high surf advisory for the south shores of Maui County through 6 a.m. on Saturday, with surf heights projected to be in the 6 to 10 foot range.
Forecasters from the NWS say reinforcing south swells may possibly bring higher surf heights over the weekend.
The advisory level surf is expected to produce hazardous conditions, including strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents.
The advisory includes precautions for swimmers, advising them to be cautious and heed the advice of ocean safety officials.
