Kamehameha Schools Maui will host its 10th Annual Hoʻolauleʻa this Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school campus in Pukalani.


“The Miracle Worker” by William Gibson, directed by Rick Scheideman. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays, May 11 through 25 at the Historic Iao Theater.

The Maui Memorial Medical Center identified 18 young artists as winners in the 2014 Student Art Contest. The selected artwork is now on display in the hospital’s hallway adjacent to the Café.

A “Go For Broke” exhibit, chronicling the history of Japanese American soldiers from the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team and Military Intelligence Service who served during World War II, opens on May 1st at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center in Wailuku.

Complete results… The men of Ka Leo O Laka I Ka Hikina O Ka Lā, under the direction of kumu hula Kaleo Trinidad, finished on top with a total of 1,194 points, winning: the Lokalia Montgomery perpetual trophy for the best overall performance; 1st place in the Overall Kāne division; 1st place in the Kāne ʻAuana division; and 2nd place in the Kāne Kahiko division.

The Merrie MThe Merrie Monarch Hula Festival continues at the Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, with two hālau from Maui competing in the final round of competition tonight (Saturday, April 26), with ʻauana, or modern hula selections.

The week-long 51st Annual Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo on Hawaiʻi Island continues with kahiko or ancient style hula performances tonight. The competition portion of the festival got underway on Thursday night with the crowning of the new Miss Aloha Hula for 2014.
