$2,500 Grant Supports Maui Mentoring Programs

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui is the recipient of a $2,500 grant from The Walmart Foundation and Maui Walmart Store, that will be used to support two after school mentoring programs at Kahului Elementary School and the Mentor Center.

Maui County’s unemployment rate for April was 4.6%, down from the 4.9% reported a month earlier, and the 4.8% recorded at the same time last year, according to new information released by the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

An old Maui favorite is on the verge of a comeback via a Kickstarter campaign that seeks to revive the well known Azeka’s Hawaiian Barbecue Sauce, by expanding the product line and moving the operation into a mainland manufacturing facility.

In 2006, Pierce launched A Maui Blog, which has been voted “Best Blog on Maui” by the readers of Maui Time Weekly for four consecutive years. Home sales on Maui were up in April with a total of 84 homes sold for a median price of $583,000, according to new data released by the Realtors Association of Maui.

The Maui Visitor Industry Charity Walk held in Wailuku on Saturday raised $767,495, according to event organizers. When combined with walks on Lanaʻi and Molokaʻi, the event raised $863,542 for Maui County.
