PUC Order Will Result in MECO Rates Increases in Maui County

The estimated increase on Maui for a customer that uses 600 kWh per month is $4.90; and the estimated increase on Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi for a customer that uses 400 kWh per month will be $3.27, according to the PUC.

The rumors are true. Late this morning, Buzz’s Wharf Restaurant at Ma’alaea Boat Harbor confirmed that they’ve closed their doors… permanently.

Maui Visitor Arrivals Expenditures Up in April, Down for Year

The data included visitor increases to Maui of 1.6% from the US West, 4.9% from the US East, and 15.4% from Canada, offsetting a 24%decrease from Japan. Factors affecting visitor arrivals include growing competition, the strengthening of the US dollar against international currencies and other economic conditions.

Delta Adding New Seattle to Maui Service in December

The daily flight from Seattle to Kahului is scheduled to begin on Dec. 20, 2014, and will utilize the airline’s Boeing 757-200 aircraft.

Fair organizers say Commercial and Product Services tents are being consolidated under one area this year due to space limitations with a new event layout. Applications for booth space at the 92nd Maui Fair are now available.

Maui Hospital Earns Gold Quality Award for Heart Care

This is the sixth year that the facility has been recognized with a quality achievement award. The program helps hospitals implement guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery, and reducing hospital readmissions for heart failure patients.

Kahului, Maui: inbound cargo increased 2.9% to 8,705 container/platform equivalents in the first quarter of 2014, and outbound cargo increased 7.9% to 3,146 CPE, representing an overall increase of 4.2%, or 11,851 CPE.
