The number of initial unemployment claims filed in Maui rose 35%, the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism said Thursday.

The New Miami Subs Grill announced Monday that it has struck a deal with Honolulu-based franchise operator Ocean Breeze Hawaii LLL to open 58 new restaurant locations in Hawaii.

The most recent First Hawaiian Bank Business Activity Report shows a 10.81% increase in first quarter “same store sales” over one year ago, making it the strongest first quarter in the past four years.
