Water outage forces temporary closure of Baldwin High School on Monday, May 15
Update: Baldwin High School will reopen on Tuesday, May 16, on a normal schedule. Repairs to a broken water valve on Kaʻahumanu Avenue are anticipated to be complete on Monday afternoon/evening. Families are being notified by the school.

UH Maui professor earns Board of Regents medal for teaching excellence
University of Hawaiʻi Maui College professor, Rosemary Vierra, was among 15 faculty members from across the state who were awarded the Regentsʻ Medal for Excellence in Teaching. Vierra is also dental hygiene program coordinator and has taught in the program since 2008.

A seabird restoration project was initiated this week at Nuʻalolo Kai on the rugged and remote Nā Pali coast of Kauaʻi. The project is a partnership of multiple organizations and aims to restore seabird populations that have been lost from the site due to introduced predators.

Events honor fallen Maui firefighter Tre’ Evans-Dumaran, MFD bids farewell
The Maui Fire Department joined Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen, members of the Maui Police Department, Kahului Airport Crash Rescue, other responders and fire personnel from around the state and the nation in saying a final farewell in honor of the life and service of fallen firefighter Tre’ Evans-Dumaran. Fire Fighter Evans-Dumaran’s ʻohana has set up a foundation to honor his life and service. They are hosting the first of their “Live like Tre’” days this Sunday, May 14 at the Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani beginning at 10 a.m.
