Trials for the 53rd Annual Hawaii High School State Track & Field Championships get underway Friday at Kea’au High School on the Big Island.

Baldwin High School advanced to the semifinals of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I State Baseball Championships after posting a 5-3 victory over Kamehameha Kapalama at the Iolani Baseball Field on Wednesday.

The official weigh-ins for tonight’s event were held yesterday at Valley Isle Ford in Kahului.

Lolohea Mahe, considered one of the heaviest-handed punchers in the MMA, headlines Friday night’s “Just Scrap XVI” fight card at War Memorial Gym with opponent Chad “The Brama Bull” Thomas of the Big Island.

As a league, the Maui Interscholastic League, is enjoying its best track and field seasons in more than half a century of state competition.

On Saturday, third, fourth and fifth place will celebrate with the same enthusiasm as second and first.

To hear the coaches tell it, the Maui Interscholastic League boys track and field championships is about “showing up” — not just one day, but both days.

The University of Hawai’i football team will host the “Spring Fling,” the team’s final practice of spring training Friday, April 27, at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. and will conclude with the annual intrasquad scrimmage at approximately 7 p.m.

Maui Interscholastic League recruits Keelan Ewaliko and Jordan Hoeim were introduced to the University of Hawaii football team by Warrior head coach Norm Chow following Saturday’s Maui practice at War Memorial Stadium.
