Sporting its first long sleeve uniforms in three seasons, the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team turned back previously unbeaten Baylor on Saturday at the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center, 25-17, 25-13, 25-19.

The University of Hawai’i Warrior football team made some noise in the second half, but it was not nearly enough in a 49-10 season-opening loss to top-ranked USC Saturday at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Lahainaluna High School’s defense pitched its second straight shutout Friday night, blanking Kamehameha Schools Maui, 36-0, before a crowd of about 3,200 fans at War Memorial Stadium.

The University of Hawai’i Warrior football team begins the Norm Chow era by opening the 2012 season against No. 1 Southern California, today, Sept. 1 in Los Angeles, Calif. Kick-off for the nationally-televised game is 4:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. Hawaii time) at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Jade Vorster and Emily Hartong packed a solid one-two punch tonight, guiding the No. 6 University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball team to a sweep of San Francisco (25-14, 27-25, 25-19) on Friday night in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.
