A year ago, Kapaa High School opened its 2011 season with a dominating 35-0 performance over visiting Kamehameha Schools Maui. The victory set the tempo for Kapaa’s first Kauai Interscholastic Federation championship since 1989.

The University of Hawai’i women’s soccer team kicks off its 2012 campaign when it travels to Nevada for a pair of matches this weekend. The Rainbow Wahine will open up the season against former Western Athletic Conference rival Nevada on Friday, Aug. 17, before heading south to face UNLV on Sunday, Aug. 19.

According to the Associated Press, former Baldwin High School standout and Oakland Athletics catcher Kurt Suzuki has been dealt to the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor-league catcher David Freitas on Friday.

Former record-breaking University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan’s blood-alcohol content of 0.17% was more than twice the legal limit when police arrested him in Kailua on July 25.
