Maui World Cup Fans View Belgium on Big Screen

Hundreds of soccer fans attended a screening of the USA vs Belgium World Cup game, broadcast live on a 47- by 22-foot big-screen at the Castle Theater of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Tuesday.

The events stadium being built at Lahainaluna High School in West Maui will be named in honor of Sue D. Cooley, its primary benefactor and part-time Maui resident, who contributed $7.5 million to the project.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center will host a live broadcast of the USA vs Belgium World Cup game, scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

Five of Maui’s cowboys and cowgirls earned a spot on the National Rodeo Team, after securing six championship buckles at the Hawaiʻi High School Rodeo Association State Finals held at the Parker Ranch Arena in Waimea on Hawaiʻi Island earlier this month.

Maui’s Nā Pua Kō girls fast-pitch softball team from Maui took home the All Star Tournaments 12-and-Under Silver Division title at the Champions 2014 USSSA PRIDE Tournament held over the weekend in Sacramento, California.

Alexandra Pardico of Maui High School and Xrystina Bicoy of Molokaʻi High were among a list of only five students that were honored as distinguished scholarship recipients. Maui High School Student Trent Hori rounded out the list of students recognized during the ceremony as a recipient of a Maui Interscholastic League Scholarship.

Maui’s Nā Pua Kō girls fast-pitch softball team from Maui took home the state title over the weekend during the Amateur Softball Association Hawaiʻi State 12 and Under Championships held on Oʻahu.

“They ended up with 21 that either signed letters of intent or some sort of agreement to play and receive some kind of aid to play and go to school in the fall. It seemed like a pretty astonishing number, since the class size is only 120.”

The Seabury Hall girls track team had a dream, and it came true Saturday, when the Spartans dominated the 2014 Island Movers Hawaii Track & Field Championships before a live television audience on OC16.
